Pikachu is a ficticious species belonging to the Pokemon series from Nintendo. It appeared for the first time in Japan in 1996, in the video games Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue, and was created by Satoshi Tajiri. Despite originaly being created as a secondary character, Pikachu became the mascot of the Pokemon universe after being chosen as one of the main characters in the television adaptation of the game, beside his trainer Ash Ketchum.

It is also considered the most popular Pokemon of the franchise. Generaly descripted as an electric mouse, Pikachu as created by the Game Freak studio and designed by Ken Sugimori. It was created together with its evolution, Raichu. From the second generation onward, it also gained a pre-evolution, Pichu. Pikachu belongs to the electric type and ocupies the 25th position in Pokedex, the enciclopedia that lists the different species of Pokemon.
